past the point of love
let the wind blow
When Jonah saw that little silver car at the red light, it was like his only chance to get out of this before it was too late.
He’d seen how Lex had eyed him in the hallway at school. And it wasn’t that look..’oh, is that Noah.’ No, he pretty much knew that she knew who he was and what she really wanted. She was hawt for him. Amazing what one look from a girl could give you to make your day. Really, it was something special. He could get off on it if he let himself. But he’d walk away all cool and confident.
Of course, maybe it would take some convincing her now. She was a bit of a hard shell to crack, but it just made him smile, the more he thought about it. Lex was his ticket out of town. Sure, it might be the start of something, and hey, usually the best parts were at the beginning not near the end. At least he could get away from here. Forget this thing with Josie and her Dad.
“We have to get Noah and Josie!” She’d awoke him from that dream, however. Even if she was trying to get them killed in the process. He thought, anyhow, when she kept looking at him instead of the road.
“I think I should drive.” He then suggested. Honestly, he didn’t want to have anything to do with this Josie thing. And so what if there was a tornado coming. Didn’t mean it was after them.
But she was driving faster, and he was putting the airconditioning on full blast.
“I hope they meet us on the corner,” Lex said.
“Me too.” He could be agreeable. But where were they? Were they still up in that old building?
Lex lunged to a stop. Honked the horn.
“Lex, must you?” There were cops across the street. This was not the time to draw attention to themselves.
“Go and find them!” Lex demanded.
“I don’t think so.” He wasn’t getting out of this car. He wanted to ride shotgun. Better yet, drive the car. “You do it. I’ll drive, all right.”
She grimaced then as if she knew precisely the kind of asshole he was.
“Why? So you can steal my car!” She let him have it, giving him a shove toward the door to get out.
“Ouch, that’s not fair. I would not do that. Honest. Who do you think I am?” He gave her a soured look.
“Everyone gets their pot from you! Everyone knows you’re the biggest pothead in school!” She snapped.
Jonah hugged himself then. They’d both wait. But Josie and Noah better get their butts out here soon. There went the sirens then. The wind was getting hostile and the car was shaking.
